Augustyn Family Services is a psychological services agency that has been providing counseling services in Northcenter for over 8 years.

Several years ago, we started to notice that we were seeing an increased number of children in two specific groups, 7th graders and 11th graders. In exploring what was going on with these two groups of kids, we learned a lot about how the Chicago school system can sometimes negatively impact a student's emotional well being.

During this talk, we will share how the increased pressure during these times of a child's education can impact them emotionally. We will discuss signs and symptoms to look for when your 7th grader is going through standardized testing and your 11th grader is applying to colleges. We will cover ways that parents can talk to their kids during these times to give them support and to ensure that their child is coping appropriately. We will also talk about when a parent should seek further support and options for supporting a struggling child.
