About Us

Black Bear Academy is a therapeutic day school and clinic serving children from early 2s (around 18 months) through 1st grade, with a full-inclusion model led by a team of highly trained teachers and therapists. Our special education teachers, early childhood educators, speech-language pathologists, occupational therapists, feeding therapists, psychologists, and social workers work together to meet each child's needs in one classroom. Academics are real and rigorous: children learn to read and write through structured literacy with the Wilson Reading System® and Fundations®, alongside math and handwriting curricula, with baseline testing so progress is measured, not assumed. Whether your child is nonverbal, unable to walk, or works on emotional regulation, we build a plan that fits. Our clinic also provides diagnostic evaluations and testing, including autism, ADHD, and neuropsychological evaluations, and therapy services open to children whether or not they are enrolled in the school. Our goal is early, intensive intervention during the prime developmental years so children are ready for their next environment. Raising a child with special needs can bring real stress and isolation. We offer a place where families feel supported and part of a community, building lifelong bonds with other parents, teachers, and therapists.
